Supporting bereaved children
Children experience grief just as much as adults. It can be caused by a variety of separation experiences. Children tend to move in and out of their grief. This means that adults can often fail to relate the child’s behaviour with their loss.
Children can find that they are having to handle powerful emotions, often for the first time. They have to keep on thinking through their loss as they progress through physical and emotional development into adulthood. Supporting bereaved children can also be challenging, especially if the caregiver is also having to handle their own grief.
CC offers individual or group support to children of all ages who have been bereaved. This is offered in schools, children’s homes and in appropriate counselling rooms. CC follows the guidelines of the Childhood Bereavement Network.

Supporting bereaved parents
When parents experience the death of a baby, child or young adult they can find that their world is turned upside down. The world seems to move on while the parent still has many issues to resolve. It can seem unbearable for a parent to have tasted the bond of love and affection only to lose them before they reach adulthood.
CC offers short and long term support to parents. This might be when the child is terminally ill, soon after death or months and years later.
